As the clock approached the 21st hour a crowd gathered for a short, solemn ceremony. Seven of Nine welcomed all in attendance and thanked them for coming. She spoke of the tragedy and loss of innocents not only in New York, but also of those innocents who died in Afghanistan as victims of war since then:
“The families and friends of innocent victims on both sides of the world have suffered. As humans it is natural for us to care for human kind and share their pain. That pain originates in the Heart of God. Blessed are the Peacemakers.”
She then opened the floor to all who might wish to say something. Thiork of PgoH was one of the first to come forward. He spoke of the things we take for granted in our lives. His story was very touching.
Rose Petal also came forward with a poem about unity in our world. Unity of the old, the young, all races and all countries. As each speaker came forward, Rayban of 56k Crew was dyeing and passing out purple capes to each person who was there. Finally, Cecil of Yes came forward and asked all to gather in. He said a very beautiful and spontaneous prayer, which conclude the ceremony.
Throughout the rest of the evening, many approached the shrine and talked in hushed conversations about how they were affected by the terrorist attacks. New friendships were made, contact information exchanged. At one point Azboklin Lirik of GoL led a discussion with the crowd and asked people to come forward.
The vigil concluded at the twenty fourth hour. The shrine saw long periods where people spent time in silent reflection and prayer. Flowers, candles and potted plants covered the shrine where those who had come by to pay their respects had left them.
September 11, 2001 will always weigh heavy on our minds and in our hearts. The coming together in spirit and mind of the members of this nation has given us hope.
Thank you for the privilege to serve…
